Monday: Movie Review

This is from rottentomatoes.com
Cowboys & Aliens:

"Cowboys & Aliens is an agreeable time-killer, but I'll bet a couple of clever kids could make a livelier movie with a Woody puppet and a Predator doll." -David Edelstein, New York Magazine

"A film that entertains, even if it doesn't live up to the full-on madness potential the title portended." -Laremy Legel, Film.com

"Over on the aliens side, it's hard to make out faces, but there's no doubt about their place of origin: These slimy, growling, bug-eyed and distinctly non-scary things are straight from central casting." -Rick Groen, Globe and Mall

"It's just big silly fun, the kind you're supposed to have at a summer movie with a ridiculous title." -Tom Long, Detroit News

Taylor Swift:

TAYLOR WOWS CROWDS AND CRITICS
CRITICS
Taylor Swift wrapped a run of sold-out New York-area shows last night with her fourth show of the week at Newark’s Prudential Center. Over the course of the week’s shows she played to over 52,000 fans, and earned rave reviews, impressing some of the nation’s toughest critics.
The   New York Times observed that, “[Speak Now] went off, as did every number, with clockwork professionalism and thousands of voices singing along and screaming between the lines. Ms. Swift, 21, is their superstar….her songs are taut, tuneful narratives.”
The Village Voice proclaimed:  “She's one of the biggest stars in the world….It's easy to see why; she sings plainly about love and friendship and sticking out the bad times, with lyrics that are made to be posted and re-blogged to Tumblr incessantly and sticky hooks that demand being hummed along with. The difference between your normal everyday emotion-feeler and Swift is that Person X isn't writing down those feelings as they happen and then channeling them into songs that get played in front of thousands of people every night. Swift is, and she has aerialists and pyro to help accentuate the roiling emotions and moments of joy.”
The New York Post reveled in the spectacle of the night: “Swift's push to visually engage the crowd was evident in each song…. with dance skits powered by elaborate choreography, multiple stages, pyrotechnics and even aerialists spinning overhead and ballerinas twirling on the ground…from the opener, Sparks Fly (complete with a fitting fireworks display), to the final encore,Love Story. Swift projected herself as a seasoned pro….. her songs….resonated loudly in the roar of cheers from the sold-out house.” After taking it all in, the paper proclaimed the obvious: “Good clean fun doesn’t have to be a snooze.”
The New York Daily News wrote: “Taylor Swift may have sung songs and played instruments at her Prudential Arena show last night, just like at any concert. But what drew her…fans close…had as much to do with her telling stories. In song after song, Swift spun shrewdly rendered tales of girlish love, informed by a romance novelist’s feel for time, place and plot.”
Taylor, who recently celebrated her 8th #1 record, the third consecutive #1 from her triple-platinum-plus Speak Now album, is 25 shows in to the North American portion of her Speak Now World Tour. The 2011 Tour includes 98 shows in 17 countries.
The North American leg of the TAYLOR SWIFT SPEAK NOW WORLD TOUR is sponsored by COVERGIRL®, and produced and promoted by The Messina Group (TMG.) The COVERGIRL® sponsorship is an expansion of the partnership announced last year, when Taylor was named the newest COVERGIRL®. TMG is a partner of AEG Live, one of the top live entertainment companies in the world, which produces world tours featuring internationally renowned artists and regional concerts and festivals.

Monday: Movie Review

Well I haven't seen any new movies recently so I'll just go online and find one!!!

Winnie The Pooh review from film4.com

Even if you have your reservations about the Disneyfication of Winnie The Pooh, you should consider giving this charming film a whirl. At just 60 minutes, it barely has a chance to outstay its welcome, and in John Cleese's narration and the visual integration of the physical text of the book into the animation, it feels very true to A. A. Milne's beloved original stories.
With a resolutely unflashy voice cast devoid of celebrities (excepting Cleese's narrator), it's the characters themselves who matter: Eeyore, Piglet, Tigger, Kanga, Rabbit, Owl and of course Pooh. Some stick closely to the characterisations you'll remember from the books - Eeyore is mordant, Kanga motherly, Owl pompous - while some have been spruced up slightly for the cinema - Tigger is as bombastic as his previous Disney outings, Rabbit is more martial and Pooh himself is almost obsessively gluttonous. A fantasy where he imagines himself gorging on a world made of honey is part Roald Dahl, part Busby Berkeley.
The decision to keep the runtime down is wise, as none of the plotlines really need feature length development, but this is worth seeing in the cinema if you can, not least for a rather sweet short animation being screened before in about Nessie, the Loch Ness monster, and her quest for a home.

Everyone's favourite bear of very little brain doesn't demand much in the way of grey matter from cinemagoers themselves, but is completely adorable and beautifully drawn.
